Allergy is a sickness of the immune system or type I allergic reaction that is often known as atopy. Allergic reactions happen to environmental substances identified as allergens; these reactions are acquired, predictable and speedy. Strictly, allergy is one of four kinds of hypersensitivity and is called kind I (or immediate) hypersensitivity. It is distinguished by extreme activation of certain white blood cells called mast cells and basophiles by a kind of antibody, known as IgE (immunoglobulin E), ensuing in a tremendous inflammatory response. Common allergic reactions are eczema, hay fever, hives, asthma, food allergies, and reactions to the venom of stinging insects such as wasps and bees.
