Clinical Research
Clinical ResearchClinical Research, the controlled use of human beings in medical trial, dates from the Greek physician Galen, the creator of experimental medicine. Clinical research in the United States, however, rose in significance in the late 19th century following European advances in Medical Research. In 1884, disease researchers in the USA formed the American Clinical and Climatological Association, and in 1909, checkup experimenters recognized the American Society of Clinical Investigation, which encouraged association of clinical research with medical practice. For much of the 20th century clinical researchers investigated the effectiveness and safety of diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of human diseases and illness.
