Counseling

Counseling in the public health location can be a demanding, annoying, and pleasing procedure: demanding because it necessitates the use of skills such as assessment, counseling methodology, treatment planning, and referral; annoying due to high caseloads and enlarged paperwork due to managed care and low client motivation; and pleasing when a counselor sees individuals recover control of their lives. Knowledge of mental illness and of chemical dependency treatment and recovery issues will improve a counselor's ability to pick up people's lives and their communities. Inspiring others to change is a gracious job but can only be effectual with the proper skills and training.
