Eye Medicine (Ophthalmology)

Ophthalmology is the division of medicine which dealing with the diseases and surgery of the visual pathways, including the function and diseases of the eye, brain, and areas surrounding the eye. Ophthalmologists specialize in the medical and surgical treatment of eye illness, eye muscle exercises, vision measurements for glasses (refraction), and the avoidance of blindness and care of the blind. Some of the main reason of blindness in adults is cataract, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, senile macular degeneration, retinal detachment and opacities of the cornea. The most common causes of visual loss in childhood are trauma to the eye and amblyopia.
