Gastroenterology

The branch of medicine specialty devoted to the study and care of the gastrointestinal tract, digestion and the digestive system. Gastroenterologists diagnose and treat illnesses of the stomach, liver, intestines, and pancreas, including ulcers, tumors, inflammatory diseases like ulcerative colitis and ileitis, and rectal disorders. Diseases affecting gastrointestinal tract such as organs from mouth to anus are the focus of this specialty. Medical doctors specializing in the field are called gastroenterologists.
