Medical Librarian
Medical LibrarianLibrarians are classified according to the category of library in which they work: a school library, public library, media center, college, university, or other university library; or special library. Librarians in particular libraries work in information centers or libraries sustained by government agencies or corporations, advertising agencies, law firms, museums, specialized associations, unions, medical centers, hospitals, religious organizations, and study laboratories. They obtain and assemble an organization's information resources, which generally are limited to subjects of special interest to the organization. They can offer very important information services by preparing conceptual and indexes of current periodicals, organizing bibliographies, or analyzing background information and preparing reports on areas of exacting interest. For instance, a special librarian working for a business could offer the sales department with information on participants or new developments affecting the field. A medical librarian may offer information about clinical trials, new medical treatments, and standard procedures to health professionals, consumers, patients, and corporations. Government document librarians, who work for government agencies and depository libraries in each of the States, preserve government publications, records, and other credentials that make up a historical evidence of government actions. |
