The term adolescence derived from is Latin word adolescere, which means "to grow into adulthood." Adolescence is a period of moving from the immaturity of childhood into the maturity of adulthood. There is no sole event or boundary line that shows the end of childhood or the start of adolescence. Rather, professionals think of the passage from childhood into and through adolescence as collected of a set of transitions that open out slowly and that touch upon many aspects of the person's behavior, development, and relationships. These transitions are cognitive, biological, social, and emotional.
