Nephrology
Nephrology is a division of internal medicine & pediatrics dealing with the study & research of the function and diseases of the kidney. The word nephrology is origin from the Greek word Nephrops, which means “kidney”, and the suffix -ology, signifying “study of”.
Nephrology concerns itself with the analysis and treatment of kidney diseases as well as electrolyte disturbances & hypertension, and the care of those requiring renal replacement healing, including dialysis and renal transplant patients. A lot of diseases affecting the kidney are not limited to the organ itself, but are complete disorders, and may need not only a whole patient approach, but also particular treatment, such as systemic vasculitis or other autoimmune illnesses, such as lupus.
