Urology

The division of medicine concerned with the study of the physiology, anatomy, and pathology of the urinary tract, with the treatment of the urinary tract of men and women; and with the care of the male genital tract.

In women the urinary tract opens into the vulva and in men, the urinary system overlaps with the reproductive system. In both kinds, the reproductive and urinary tracts are close together, and disorders of one often affect the other. Urology joins management of medical problems such as urinary disease and surgical problems such as the correction of congenital abnormalities and the surgical management of cancers. Such problems within the genital region are known as genitourinary disorders.
